As food and wine evolves so has the Snowy Mountains witnessed many changes over recent years to tempt the palate, from cool climate wines, to a Schnapps distillery outside Jindabyne to the award winning Tumut River brewing Company,

Courabyra Wines is a family-owned and operated vineyard nestled in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, producing some of the finest cold-climate wines. Seasonal lunch and dinner menu made with regional produce,indoor and outdoor dining available, overlooking the vineyard and rolling hills.

Crafty Cider Cellar door, enjoy a free tasting of their six unique ciders. At Crafty Cider they grow the apples and make the cider on-site, on their beautiful 55 acres tucked away in the Kunama Valley near Batlow NSW.

The Tumut region highlights the high country traditional hearty meals available in most pubs and for those who chase the Asian flavours the region has a couple of Chinese restaurants with Tumut the backdrop to Thai, Japanese and Indian cuisines.

Within an hour and a half one can travel though some of regional Australia’s heartland, the Riverina, and visit the Junee Licorice and Chocolate factory and have the full the “Willy Wonka experience. Visit for all the organic produce and then travel onto the Coolamon Cheese factory,  before returning to Elm Cottage to savour and enjoy your fare.

For the more adventurous you can travel throughout the region foraging for cool climate wines, blueberries,  and the famous fruits from the Batlow district.

Local at Learmont’s is a cooperative run and owned by makers and producers to bring you the freshest, locally produced and made produce, craft and art you could ever find – right in Tumut’s CBD.

The region offers the best of both worlds with restaurants or for those with a fancy for creating your own feast there is the local produce to forage and return to Elm Cottage to either prepare in your  cottage or enjoy with family or loved ones at the river’s edge which bring us to the Snowy mountains famous trout. Yes cast a line in the Goobarragandra and then smoke your catch in the campfire, what better way to finish your day of adventure with a great meal while enjoying our magnificent sunsets.
