Elm Cottage is located just one hour's drive from the Mount Selwyn snowfields, a family-friendly ski resort that provides everything from beginner slopes to intermediate and advanced trails.
Mount Selwyn offers programs for children as young as 18 months old, with a range of snow sport options for all ages and levels of experience including cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing.
The resort is also home to a professional ski school with qualified instructors who will make sure you get the most out of the varied ski runs suitable for all levels of experience.
The resort village boasts a cafeteria, coffee shop and bar or bring your own food an make use of the onsite electric BBQs and picnic tables. Ski equipment, clothing and accessories can be purchased or hired on site.
Driving to Mount Selwyn from Elm Cottage is simply spectacular! Catch a glimpse of brumbies frolicking in the snow and kangaroos and wallabies making their way through Australia's winter wonderland.
After your day in the snow, return to your cosy cottage with all the creature comforts of home, or spend some time star gazing in front of one of the camp fires.
Please note: all two wheel drive vehicles should keep snow chains on board during the winter months.
Take the Hume Highway south, through Goulburn, Yass and toward Gundagai. When arriving at Gundagai bypass the first two exits cross the bridge and take the South Gundagai/Tumut exit with the Shell Service Station. Travel time approx 41/2 to 5 hours.
Take the Hume Highway north to Albury approx. 3 1/2 hours. Travel through Albury and continue along the Hume Highway through to Holbrook and Tarcutta, then take the Adelong & Tumut turn off approx 20kms north of Tarcutta. For the discerning traveller try the Snowy Valleys Way. Travel time approx 5-5 1/2 hours.
Travel the Barton Highway to Yass. On reaching the outskirts of Yass take the by-pass to Gundagai which joins up with the Hume Highway. Travel time approx 2- 21/2 hours.
On reaching Tumut continue along the Snowy Mountains highway towards Cooma, passing the City Centre of Tumut and the sports ground. Take a left hand turn into Tumut Plains Road (just after 5 Ways Studio) and after crossing a one lane heritage bridge, then another small bridge, take the next left into Little River Road. Travel 7.2 km's to the river. Take a right at the gate and travel along the dirt road, until you see the road veer to the left with Elm Cottage signs.
